home warranty insurance cost

average cost of home warranty plans

I submitted a claim for system failure of pool pump. The claim was denied. According to the Choice Home Warranty technician the claim was denied for multiple reasons all of which the technician tried to assure the claim adjuster were NOT the reasons for the failure. Choice Home Warranty advised me they would consider a second opinion by a licensed pool company and the total cost of inspection and opinion must be borne by me. I did that. The second company affirmed the opinion of the initial company.

As an FYI I looked on Consumer Affairs and Select has disputed and blocked every negative review on that siteOn 12/05/14, I contacted Select Home Warranty about an issue with my pool pump and they responded with the name and number of their vendor. I called, but that vendor did not work on residential properties, so I had to go back to Select for the name of another vendor. It took 3 calls to finally speak to someone and was told someone would call me back to set up an appointment to meet me at my house. I contacted Select on 01/05/15 and informed them that I had not heard back from their vendor. They responded on 01/06/15 that my claim was approved. I informed them that I didn't even know what was wrong with the pump as the vendor never contacted me or met me at my property. I was told they would look into it and then told the vendor said my 2 year old pump needed replacing and I needed to contact the vendor. I tried but had no response and I wasn't having any work done until I knew exactly what the problem was and the cost. Select said I could have my own vendor do the work, which I did. I applied for my $150 on 03/09/15 and sent back the requested paperwork. When I contacted Select today, they said they did not receive my signed release, so I emailed it to them to 2 different email addresses.

That’s why we buy life insurance. That’s why we buy homeowner’s insurance. If your house burns down, you can’t self insure through that one. You can self insure through your DVD player breaking. If you can’t, you don’t need to be buying a DVD player. You could self insure through your heating and air going out. It’s called an emergency fund. You can’t self insure through a triple bypass, so you have health insurance. On the big things, you transfer the risk. On the little things, you self insure. By the way, that gives you more money to self insure with because you’re not spending all your money on home warranties, extended warranties, electronics warranties and all these other rip off things.
